Acting Minister of Defence Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region has been suspended until further notice following the stampede that occurred on November 12, 2025, which has led to the death of six persons.

The Acting Minister, who is also the substantive Finance Minister, said this when he briefed Parliament.

In his presentation, he stated that six persons have been confirmed dead, while five are in critical condition and on admission at the Intensive Care Unit, with 12 others in fairly critical condition.

Dr. Forson informed the house that all other recruitment exercises in the other regions will continue.

He said the recruitment exercise, which is being done on a regional basis, is to decentralise the process.

He indicated that a total of 34 persons were affected during the stampede, some of whom were not related to the enlistment exercise.

Dr. Ato Forson stated further that one other person has been hospitalised in Kumasi, though that incident is unrelated to the one in Accra.

He said all the recruitment exercises being conducted in the other regions are progressing smoothly without any recorded incidents.

He, on behalf of the Ghana Armed Forces, extended condolences to the affected families, adding that the Ministry is working with the GAF, medical officers, and others to ensure that those who sustained injuries are supported.

An investigation, he said, would be conducted by the GAF, establishing an internal board to probe the matter.

He assured the House that efforts would be deployed in ensuring that this “tragedy” does not repeat itself again.
