Manchester United, a prominent Premier League club, has terminated the services of manager Ruben Amorim.
Darren Fletcher is anticipated to take over as the team’s interim manager for the upcoming Premier League match against Burnley on Wednesday.
In a statement, the club revealed that the decision was made with reluctance, citing it was deemed necessary for change.
This development follows Amorim’s hints on Sunday that he was displeased with the board’s level of interference.
On Friday, he had also mentioned that his working relationship with the team was strained.
Amorim, who took the reins in November 2024, managed to win 25 out of 63 games during his tenure as the Red Devils’ manager.
Manchester United explained that Amorim had “departed his role as head coach of Manchester United” after 14 months in charge.
“With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change,” United said.
“This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.
“The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.”
