Hon. Abdul Kabiru Tiah Mahama, Member of Parliament for Walewale, has reiterated the significance of former President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo’s role in pushing for slavery reparations, highlighting the Accra Proclamation on Reparations as a landmark achievement.

He criticised those who ridiculed the former president’s efforts, saying it’s essential to acknowledge his contribution and the impact it will have on Ghana and Africa as a whole.

The MP stressed that addressing historical injustices is not a distraction from pressing issues like unemployment and economic challenges but a necessary step towards healing and progress.

He commended President John Dramani Mahama for embracing the initiative, saying it’s a demonstration of Africa’s commitment to reparatory justice and a testament to the continent’s resolve to address the lingering effects of slavery and colonialism.

Hon. Mahama noted that the Accra Proclamation on Reparations is a bold step towards restorative justice, recognising the harm caused by transatlantic enslavement, colonialism, and apartheid.

He urged Ghanaians to seize this moment, emphasising that reparations are not just about financial compensation but also about acknowledging the past, promoting healing, and building a more equitable future.

Hon. Mahama’s impassioned plea highlights the need for collective action to address Ghana’s development challenges and shape a brighter future for all.
