Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa advocates for stronger economic ties between Zimbabwe and Ghana, leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area for mutual growth in sectors like mining, agriculture, and trade.

He made the remarks during a bilateral talk with President John Dramani Mahama as part of his three-day official visit to Ghana at the Peduase Lodge on Thursday, April 2, 2026.

He underscored the need for a renewed, Africa-centred approach to resource management.

He further stressed the need for private sector participation in strengthening bilateral ties.

In his view, the joint ventures could promote best practices across industries.

“Let us take advantage of the opportunities created by the AfCFTA to further boost cooperation within our economies. Both Zimbabwe and Ghana have vast mineral resources. It is incumbent upon us to maximise knowledge sharing with new Afrocentric models for sustainable extraction, value addition and pricing structures, among other issues, so that we drive maximum returns that benefit our people,” he said.

“The importance of private sector collaboration cannot be overemphasised. Joint ventures will enhance best practices. In the agriculture sector, projects driven by our respective jurisdictions, aimed at improving food security through the introduction of resilient seed varieties for Ghana’s market, deserve our support,” he added.

President Mnangagwa expressed his country’s commitment to expanding trade relations with Ghana.

“In line with our mantra, Zimbabwe is open for business; we’re committed to improving our bilateral trade,” he concluded.
