We’ll go and sleep at the Jubilee House if we’re not recruited – TTAG

The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has threatened to stage a national demonstration if the government, through the Ministry of Finance, fails to expand financial clearance to accommodate the entire 2023 cohort of trained teachers.

While the government recently announced plans to employ 7,000 teachers, TTAG maintains that this figure is insufficient.

The association argues that the current financial clearance must be expanded beyond these limited slots to absorb every member of the 2023 graduating class, asserting that any alternative would be both unjustifiable and unacceptable.

During a recent address, Association President Devine Naninja urged President John Dramani to issue a decisive directive to restore public confidence in the automatic posting policy.

He emphasised that the government must honour its previous commitments regarding the automatic employment of newly trained teachers, rather than letting the policy lapse.

“We demand that this commitment be honoured in action, not in rhetoric, or clearly redefined in a manner that does not betray the trust of thousands of Ghanaian youths,” he stated.

Additionally, the association is calling for the immediate implementation of a structured, transparent, and time-bound national recruitment framework, starting with the total clearance of the existing backlog to ensure no qualified teacher is left unemployed.

He stressed that they would go and sleep at either the Jubilee House or the Finance Ministry if they are not recruited.
