Judith Adjobah Blay, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company, has advocated for a tariff adjustment to ensure the continued operational sustainability and efficiency of the Gas Processing Plant (GPP) situated in Atuabo.

This appeal was put forward during a visit by the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy, who toured the facility to acquire a direct understanding of the plant’s activities and its broader impact on the national energy landscape.

Madam Blay emphasised the necessity for Ghana Gas to enter into discussions with the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) to provide a formal justification for the specific expenditures and investments required to enhance the facility’s performance.

She acknowledged that while a modest tariff revision might result in a slight rise in the price of power, the alternative—insufficient funding for essential maintenance and operations—poses a significantly greater risk that could ultimately jeopardise the country’s entire energy supply.

The CEO also disclosed that the plant had recently undergone a temporary period of inactivity following the malfunction of a Central Processing Unit (CPU), which serves as a vital element of the facility’s automated control systems.

In response, the Chairman of the Energy Committee, the Honourable Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, praised the company for its overall performance and the high level of professionalism exhibited by its workforce.

He noted that the primary objective of the Committee’s visit was to gather primary data on gas processing and production, adding that the members were highly impressed by the standards maintained at the site.

The Chairman concluded by offering the Committee’s full support to the management and staff.

He affirmed that Parliament remains committed to ensuring that the legislative frameworks governing Ghana Gas are strictly upheld and that the company’s core mandate is robustly protected.
