Patients at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital can expect a return to normalcy today, Tuesday, May 5, 2026; the Korle Bu Doctors Association (KODA) has officially suspended its strike action.

The industrial action, which commenced early on Monday morning, was triggered by ongoing disputes regarding the working conditions and placement of laboratory physicians.

The decision to return to work follows a high-stakes meeting held on this Monday morning between association leaders and hospital management.

During these deliberations, KODA received formal assurances that management would take the necessary steps to ensure laboratory physicians are integrated back into their specific workplaces.

This resolution addresses a primary grievance of the association, which had expressed concerns over the professional harmony between different cadres of staff within the facility.

In an official statement released after the meeting, KODA Chairman Dr Asare Offei emphasised that the association remains committed to the principle of peaceful coexistence between laboratory physicians and medical laboratory scientists.

He noted that such a collaborative environment at the Central Laboratory is fundamental to maintaining the standards of healthcare delivery that the public expects from Ghana’s premier teaching hospital.

Consequently, all members of the association have been directed to resume full outpatient services starting Tuesday, 5th May.

The hospital administration has been formally notified of the resumption, with copies of the resolution sent to the director of medical affairs and the board chair to ensure a seamless transition back to regular operations.
