Mr John Mensah Tosenu, Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, has defended the decision by members to stage a demonstration earlier today at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).
His comments follow a notice by the Medical Laboratory Professional Workers’ Union (MELPWU) of a nationwide strike set for 12 May 2026 over what it describes as the unlawful removal of the Head of Laboratory Services at KBTH.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem, Mr Tosenu said although stakeholders and the Ministry of Health have stepped in to address the matter, the outcome of the meeting has not satisfied the union.
He stated that the ministry’s decision to appoint the Director of Pharmacy to act as Head of Laboratory Services is unacceptable, adding that leadership is still on course to resolve the situation before the deadline.
He therefore issued a series of demands, including the immediate reinstatement of the medical laboratory scientist as head of laboratory services at KBTH and strict adherence to the earlier resolutions reached under the auspices of the Ministry of Health.
