The Deputy Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Madam Veronica Commey, has rendered an unqualified apology to members of the media over the challenges encountered during coverage of the ongoing African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra.
Speaking during a media interaction at the championship venue, Commey admitted that the difficulties faced by journalists, including logistical and operational setbacks, were unfortunate and did not reflect the standards Ghana intended to present as host of the continental event.
“First of all, I would like to apologise to the media because beyond everything, there was a lot of unnecessary and unwanted noise around the game that distracted our plans. I have been a journalist myself for many years and have travelled to many competitions in many countries, and I understand, but it’s unacceptable. You need a very quiet environment to work, so we have heard you, and before you even talked about it, we knew it, and I sincerely apologise, and we will make sure such doesn’t repeat. Kindly accept my apology.”
She assured media practitioners that immediate measures were being put in place to address the concerns and improve working conditions for the remainder of the championship.
The 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships is currently taking place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra from 12 May to 17 May 2026.
