The United States Embassy in Ghana has confirmed the successful extradition of Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), to face accountability following her conviction on multiple corruption charges.

This development marks a significant milestone in judicial cooperation between the two nations, representing the first formal extradition from the United States to Ghana in nearly two decades.

Attionu was convicted in absentia by an Accra High Court for her involvement in a series of financial infractions that resulted in massive losses to the state during her tenure at the microfinance agency.

In an official statement released to announce the completion of the judicial process, the Embassy emphasised that the operation underscores a deep, ongoing operational alliance between American and Ghanaian authorities to combat cross-border crime and financial malfeasance.

“Justice has no borders. The United States has extradited Sedina Tamakloe Attionu to Ghana, following her conviction on 70+ corruption-related charges, including embezzling more than $6M equivalent in Ghanaian taxpayer funds. This is our strong U.S.-Ghana law enforcement partnership in action demonstrating a shared commitment to accountability, and the first extradition from the United States to Ghana since 2009,” a pist shared by the Embassy on Facebook read.

The repatriation of the high-profile convict signals a resolute stance by United States law enforcement to ensure that individuals fleeing local judicial verdicts cannot use American soil as a sanctuary to evade justice.

Both nations continue to leverage international legal frameworks to strengthen institutional transparency and ensure public resources are protected.
