Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Wing in Ayawaso West Wuogon have commended their Member of Parliament, John Dumelo, for launching a constituency-wide World Cup viewing initiative.

Dressed in national colors, a group of youth supporters recently visited Rainbow Radio, singing traditional “jama” cheer songs to rally backing for the senior national team.

Speaking on the ‘Away Bus’ show with host Danny Fii Abrantie, Constituency Youth Organizer Theophilus K. Bedrah emphasized that both NDC and New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters have united behind the national team, transcending political lines through the initiative.

Under the initiative, giant screens are being mounted at specific locations across the constituency to broadcast games for free.

Public viewing centers include the Okponglo area for all tournament matches, alongside dedicated hubs at the Abelemkpe Astro Turf park, Mempasem, Airport Residential Area, West Legon, and Dzorwulu for all Ghana fixtures. Dumelo has reportedly covered the DSTV subscription fees for these centers to ensure uninterrupted access.

Beyond entertainment, Bedrah noted that the project functions as a localized economic stimulus, creating over 110 direct and indirect jobs primarily benefiting women and youth.

Deputy Youth Organizer Nana Yaw Sakyi, on his part, commended the MP, describing his initiative as unprecedented.

He said it is their prayer that he will continue to lead notable initiatives that will help unite and transform the constituency.

The initiative has employed 10 individuals to set up the viewing equipment and 30 others to distribute refreshments at the centers.

Local hospitality and supply chains have also been integrated into the operation.

Thirteen local “kenkey” vendors have been contracted to prepare meals for the crowds.

To support Ghanaian agriculture, the MP sourced maize from farmers facing market gluts in the Upper East and Volta regions, fish from the Volta and Central regions, and tomatoes and onions from the Ashanti region. Local chair rental companies and neighborhood taxi drivers have also been contracted to manage logistics and transportation for the viewing events.
