Thapelo Maseko scored a historic second-half winner against South Korea to send South Africa into the World Cup knockout stage for the first time.
The victory secures second place in Group A behind Mexico and sets up a last-32 clash against Canada in Los Angeles this Sunday.
The player scored the goal by drilling a low effort through the legs of defender Jens Castrop at the near post.
Despite controlling possession, South Korea failed to equalise.
South Korea, who needed only a point to qualify, must now wait to see if they progress as one of the best third-placed teams.
