The Black Stars of Ghana have sent a message of support to victims of the recent devastating floods in Accra, with head coach Carlos Queiroz declaring that “football is secondary” in the face of such tragedy.

Speaking from the United States, where the national team is currently preparing for their highly anticipated World Cup clash against Colombia, Carlos Queiroz expressed deep anguish over the heartbreaking images and reports emerging from the capital.

“On behalf of myself, my technical team, and the entire Black Stars squad here in the United States, I want to express our deepest solidarity with the victims of the floods in Accra,” Queiroz said in an official statement.

The floods have caused widespread disruption, displacing numerous residents from their homes and leaving families grieving for lost loved ones.

Acknowledging the immense pain back home, the veteran manager emphasised that the team’s thoughts remain firmly with the Ghanaian public despite their demanding tournament preparations.

“To the families who have lost loved ones, those who have been displaced from their homes, and everyone affected — we are with you,” Queiroz stated. “The images and reports from home are heartbreaking, and even though we are here preparing for our World Cup match against Colombia, our thoughts have not left Ghana.”
The head coach stressed the unity of the nation during times of crisis, adding: “In moments like this, we are reminded that football is secondary. Ghana is one family. When Accra suffers, we all suffer.”

The Black Stars are scheduled to take the pitch at the Kansas City Stadium on July 3 against Columbia in the round of 32 in the ongoing World Cup.

Queiroz rallied his players, promising that the squad will draw motivation from the fortitude of the affected citizens and will play with a renewed sense of purpose to bring comfort to the nation.

“We will carry the people of Accra in our hearts when we walk out at Kansas City Stadium on July 3. Your resilience is our inspiration,” the manager affirmed. “We will give everything to make you proud and to bring some hope in this difficult time. Stay strong, Accra. Stay strong, Ghana. We stand with you.”
