No Ebola outbreak in Ghana; disregard false report – Health Ministry

July 21, 2026

The Ministry of Health has refuted reports circulating on social media claiming that Ghana has recorded thousands of Ebola cases and hundreds of deaths.

The response follows a publication attributed to the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), which alleged that Ghana’s Ebola cases had climbed to 2,300, with 930 fatalities.

In a press statement issued by Isaac Ofei Baah of the Ministry’s Public Relations Unit, health authorities described the publication as completely fabricated and urged the public to disregard it.

“The Ministry wishes to state unequivocally that Ghana has not recorded any case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). The figures being circulated are false, misleading, and should be disregarded,” the statement read.

Clarifying recent monitoring exercises, the Ministry explained that the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, recently toured entry points, testing laboratories, and treatment facilities strictly as part of routine national readiness measures.
It stressed that these precautionary checks were meant to reinforce the country’s public health defences rather than respond to an active emergency.

“These proactive measures do not indicate an Ebola outbreak in Ghana,” the statement clarified, warning against the spread of unverified information.

The Ministry urged citizens and the international community to depend strictly on verified updates from official state agencies.

“The Ministry urges the public to rely only on official information from the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service and to avoid sharing unverified reports that may cause unnecessary fear and panic,” it added.
