The Government of Ghana has signed a Memorandum of Understanding under the Ghana Gold Purchase Programme to secure 30 per cent of all gold produced by large-scale mining companies for the nation’s strategic reserves.
The agreement forms part of a broad economic strategy aimed at building a foreign reserve buffer, with the government setting a target to achieve 15 months of import cover by 2028.
Expressing appreciation to the Ghana Chamber of Mines and participating mining firms, government officials commended the industry for its cooperation and commitment to national development.
The agreement is expected to create an economic cushion against global financial shocks, support the stability of the Ghana cedi, and reinforce the nation’s long-term financial security.
