The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, has made a passionate appeal to mothers across the country to take a central role in keeping their daughters in school, supporting their academic ambitions, and preparing them for future leadership roles.
According to him, empowering mothers remains a critical catalyst for closing Ghana’s gender gap in education and fostering a more equitable society.
Addressing attendees as the guest speaker at the 2026 MomCo Conference held in Accra, Dr Apaak underscored the profound impact mothers have on shaping the educational trajectories, moral values, and ambitions of their children, especially young girls.
He explained that when a mother is fully empowered, she is better equipped to guide her daughter through her educational journey, ensure her retention in school, and inspire her to strive for leadership positions.
He added that the influence of an empowered mother extends equally to raising sons who appreciate, respect, and support women in all spheres of life.
Reaffirming the government’s stance, the Deputy Minister declared the Ministry of Education’s unwavering commitment to gender-responsive education. He highlighted mothers and community groups such as MomCo as strategic partners in the national drive to enhance educational outcomes and eliminate gender disparities.
Dr Apaak concluded by emphasizing that nurturing positive values within the home environment, combined with targeted support for mothers, remains the foundation for building a fairer and more inclusive nation for future generations.
