KMA bans new billboards, orders removal of unpermitted structures

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has imposed an immediate temporary ban on the erection of new billboards across its jurisdiction while demanding that all existing operators produce valid documentation within fourteen days or face the immediate removal of their structures.

The directive, which took effect on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, forms part of a broader crackdown by the assembly to enforce regulatory compliance and clean up outdoor advertising within the metropolis.

In an official statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Henrietta A.K. Aboagye, on behalf of the Metro Chief Executive, the assembly instructed all outdoor advertising operators, owners, managers, and space providers to report for compliance verification.

“As part of measures to ensure compliance with the Assembly’s regulations, all billboard operators are required to report to the Assembly and produce valid permits and proof of payment of the appropriate fees for the 2026 financial year,” the statement noted.

The assembly warned that non-compliant operators risk having their billboards dismantled without further notice once the two-week window lapses.

“The Assembly wishes to state categorically that any billboard structure whose operator fails to provide valid proof of the required permit and payment of the appropriate fees within the stipulated period will be subject to removal by the KMA in accordance with the applicable regulations,” Aboagye added.

Affected operators have been directed to submit their documents to the Physical Planning Department of the KMA, located at the Adum Ministries area near the Ghana Immigration Service Regional Command, before the deadline.

The assembly urged all industry stakeholders to cooperate with the directive as it works to maintain a safe, orderly, and properly regulated urban environment across the Kumasi metropolis.
