Scores of security service recruits have been dismissed from various training institutions across Ghana after an official verification exercise revealed their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results were forged or doctored.
Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed disclosed that the management of the respective services forwarded the applicants’ certificates to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for authentication, uncovering widespread falsification. Condemning the act, the Minister expressed utter shock that individuals seeking to uphold law and order would resort to illegalities to secure employment within the country’s security architecture.
The dismissals follow a recent enforcement drive that saw ten other recruits sacked for violating strict training protocols by secretly keeping mobile phones.
Speaking at the inauguration of new classroom facilities at the Asokore Mampong Roman Catholic School, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak revealed that all recruits caught with altered certificates will be red-listed to permanently bar them from future security enlistments, with management moving to prosecute culpable offenders. He urged prospective applicants to possess genuine qualifications before seeking entry into the Police, Prisons, Immigration, Fire Service, Narcotics Control Commission, or Armed Forces.
“It’s so shocking that a lot of people forged their results. I don’t know how they think that they will be employed in the Police, Prisons, Immigration, Fire Service, Narcotics Control Commission, or Armed Forces, and the certificate you present won’t be checked. As we speak, many have been dismissed from the training because they have doctored their results slips,” he said.
