Police launch search for missing Assin Fosu man as captors demand GH¢49,500 ransom

A family in Assin Fosu within the Central Region is appealing for urgent security intervention following the abduction of 30-year-old Bismark Amoh, who remains in the custody of unknown captors after more than 48 hours.

Bismark was kidnapped on Sunday, September 6, 2026. His captors initially demanded a ransom of GH¢45,000 and gave the distressed family a 24-hour ultimatum to pay or risk losing him.

Disturbing audio and video files transmitted via WhatsApp depict Bismark stripped naked, bound at the hands, feet, and neck, and subjected to severe physical abuse while lying in pools of water. In the recordings, he is heard pleading with his relatives to secure the funds to save his life.

The perpetrators have been operating Bismark’s personal mobile phone to communicate with the family on WhatsApp, a tactic believed to be aimed at concealing their identities and avoiding digital tracking.

In an effort to secure his safety, the family gathered GH¢19,500 from relatives and well-wishers and transferred the amount to the abductors. However, the captors refused to release him and instead raised their total demand to GH¢49,500, requiring an additional payment of GH¢30,500.

They have since issued a fresh eight-hour deadline, threatening to execute Bismark, burn his remains, and destroy his mobile devices should the extra sum remain unpaid.

The family has formally lodged a complaint with the Cybercrime Unit of the Central North Regional Police Command. Meanwhile, one of the retrieved audio files features an unidentified female voice accusing Bismark of defrauding individuals linked to his captors. The exact identity of the woman, the nature of the alleged fraud, and its potential connection to the abduction remain under investigation.

The Central North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Abraham Aquaye, confirmed receipt of the report and stated that police personnel are pursuing operational leads to track down the suspects and ensure the safe rescue of the victim.
