Tempers flared at the GNAT Hall resolution centre in Accra as the Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Benjamin Nargeh, clashed with officials overseeing the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
The confrontation unfolded as hundreds of frustrated Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates and their parents gathered at the venue, struggling to resolve persistent placement errors.
Nargeh, who visited the centre alongside his entourage to assess the situation and provide refreshments to affected families, accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration of disrupting the placement software, leading to widespread chaos for tens of thousands of basic school graduates.
Addressing journalists at the scene, the NPP youth leader criticized the current management of the placement portal, asserting that policy shifts had compromised the integrity of the process.
“We came here to stand with these stranded students and their parents who have been left frustrated by the systemic failures introduced into the CSSPS. The changes made by the NDC administration have only brought hardship to thousands of households across the country,” Nargeh declared.
He further urged anxious families to remain calm, assuring them that a future NPP-led administration under Dr Mahamudu Bawumia would immediately overhaul the portal and fix the challenges.
“I am appealing to all affected parents and students to hold on. A future Bawumia-led NPP government will fix these disruptions, restore efficiency to the CSSPS, and ensure every child receives a fair and smooth placement,” he added.
Several parents at the GNAT Hall shared their distress with reporters, describing long waiting times and unresolved system errors.
“We have been standing in line since dawn, yet nobody is giving us clear answers. My child scored good grades, but the system either assigned a wrong school or failed to place him entirely,” one distressed mother stated.
Another guardian remarked, “The stress and financial strain of traveling back and forth to this resolution centre are unbearable. The authorities must fix this portal immediately.”
