Our Commission does not shield or protect drug traffickers – NACOC

September 15, 2026
Cocaine

The Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations at the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), PNCO Francis Opoku Amoah, has declared that the Commission will utilize every legal means to deal ruthlessly with illicit drug operators in Ghana.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Amoah emphasized that NACOC does not shield or protect drug traffickers under any circumstances. He asserted that anyone arrested in connection with illicit drug activities will face prosecution strictly in accordance with the law.

His remarks follow the recent arrest of three Ghanaian suspects for allegedly facilitating the activities of Dutch fugitive Jos Leijdekkers, widely known as “Bolle Jos.” The operation came on the heels of a major interdiction by French customs, who intercepted a massive cocaine shipment tied to the broader international syndicate.

Confirming that all three suspects remain in custody as investigators probe their roles in the cross-border trafficking network, Mr. Amoah announced that they will be arraigned in court today, September 15, 2026, to face prosecution.

He noted that illicit drug trafficking is a sophisticated, syndicated enterprise that requires a tactical approach during investigations and arrests, with operators constantly attempting to beat security systems.

“But NACOC, working in collaboration with other security agencies, is prepared to arrest and deal with these drug traffickers. We are also doing our best to make drug trafficking an unpleasant activity. We don’t want Ghana to be tagged or known as a country fertile for drug trade. Our preparedness is so strong that we have made it clear that Ghana is not a location for illicit drug trade. If we don’t arrest you, the police, immigration, or other security agencies will arrest you.”

He stressed that the Commission remains resolute in preserving the country’s reputation and security.

“NACOC is not an institution that protects drug traffickers or kingpins. Their activities remain a threat to national security, tarnish our global image, and undermine bilateral activities, so we don’t entertain it. We want to assure Ghanaians that NACOC is not a place where we protect or shield the identities of drug kingpins. When we arrest them, we will prosecute them.”
