The Ghana Police Service, through its Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), has announced that full implementation of its automated traffic law enforcement system, TRAFFITECH-GH, will commence on Tuesday, October 1, 2026.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Service to curb road indiscipline across the country and boost compliance with traffic regulations.

According to an official statement signed by the Deputy Superintendent of Police and Staff Officer at Public Affairs, Richmond Mensah, the system relies on advanced technology to monitor and enforce road safety standards.

“TRAFFITECH-GH will use cameras and Personal Data Assistant (PDA) devices to detect traffic offences and support the enforcement of road traffic regulations,” the statement revealed.

Under the new operational framework, recorded traffic breaches will undergo thorough verification before automated penalties are administered.

“Under the programme, detected offences will be reviewed and Electronic Notices of Violation (ENV) issued to vehicle owners or drivers through SMS. The notice will indicate the offence committed and the prescribed fine,” DSP Mensah stated.

The Police Service has subsequently appealed to members of the motoring public to cooperate fully with the new scheme to enhance safety across Ghana’s road networks.

“The Service therefore urges all motorists, drivers and vehicle owners to comply with road traffic regulations and support the implementation of TRAFFITECH-GH to promote safer roads and reduce road traffic crashes and casualties,” the release added.
