One dead, 19 in critical condition as Sprinter bus bursts tyre at Wassa Agona

One person has been confirmed dead, whilst 19 others are in critical condition, following a tragic road accident at Wassa Agona, near Ahwetieso, in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region.

The fatal crash occurred when a Mercedes Sprinter mini-bus suffered a sudden tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the Assembly Member for the Agona-Ahwetieso Electoral Area, Hon. Michael Danso Yeboah, confirmed the incident and disclosed the details of the casualty toll.

According to him, one passenger died on the spot, whilst nineteen others sustained severe injuries.

He noted that the injured victims are currently receiving urgent medical treatment across three separate health facilities in the enclave: the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital, Apinto Government Hospital, and another local facility.

Emergency responders and security personnel were dispatched to the scene shortly after the crash to manage traffic and assist with the rescue operation.

Police have commenced investigations into the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
