Kwadaso NDC grassroots demand MCE’s removal over mismanagement allegations

Frustrated National Democratic Congress (NDC) activists in Kwadaso have formally appealed to the President to dismiss the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Eric Asibey, citing divisive governance and systemic neglect of the party’s local base.

The petition, authored by Ohwimase Ward Secretary Martin Adu Baffour, outlines deep-seated grievances following the party’s 2024 election success. Grassroots leaders accuse the MCE of ignoring agreed frameworks intended to distribute municipal opportunities fairly across Kwadaso’s 15 electoral wards.

Key complaints center on the alleged misdirection of social interventions and infrastructure developments. The petitioners claim the Nkoko Nketekete poultry scheme yielded barely 3,000 birds against an expected 10,000, while Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) allocations were capped at a single recipient per ward. Further friction stems from the alleged redirection of a planned bus terminal in Ohwimase to make way for a private filling station, alongside opacity surrounding commercial operations at the Sofoline Interchange enclave.

“Senior Comrades and party financiers have tried repeatedly to bring the MCE back on track, but every intervention has proven futile,” the petition highlighted, warning that the MCE’s continued tenure risks fracturing the party’s local strength ahead of future contests.

The group claims to have exhausted internal dialogue across constituency, regional, and national levels, prompting their direct plea to the Presidency, the Chief of Staff, and the Ministry of Local Government.

Rejecting the claims, Hon. Eric Asibey dismissed the petition as baseless and misleading. Addressing the contract dispute, the MCE clarified that public sector procurement operates strictly under statutory regulations rather than partisan preference.

“Assembly contracts cannot simply be handed out on the basis of party alignment. Public administration requires strict adherence to legal procurement frameworks,” Asibey maintained, insisting his office remains fully compliant with local governance laws.
