Techiman nurse detained in ‘Ghana Jollof’ probe; GRNMA demands transparency

GRNMA

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has stepped in following the arrest and detention of Nurse Salomey Baffoe, a practitioner stationed in Techiman, in connection with the high-profile “Ghana Jollof” investigation.

Following news of her detention, the GRNMA National Council dispatched a delegation led by Assistant National Public Relations Officer, Mr Philimon Gyapong, to the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, 16th September 2026, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the arrest.

Senior police officials at the facility confirmed her arrest and ongoing detention. However, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) handling the matter withheld specific case details, citing the sensitive nature of the active investigation, and advised union executives to coordinate directly with the member’s legal team, who had represented her in court earlier that day.

Despite assurances from police leadership that Nurse Baffoe is safe and being treated in line with professional standards, the union voiced strong concerns over the lack of transparency regarding her exact location of custody.

She is scheduled to re-appear before the Adenta Circuit Court today, Thursday, 17th September 2026.

Reacting to the developments, GRNMA President Mrs Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo directed a team of national representatives to attend today’s proceedings. The association stated that its presence aims to clarify the legal situation and partner with her defence counsel to pursue a swift outcome.

Union leadership has also contacted Nurse Baffoe’s family to offer institutional, emotional, and legal assistance.

In a statement signed by Assistant National PRO Philimon Gyapong, the association called for composure within its ranks: “We urge all members to remain calm but vigilant as we navigate this matter. Unity is Strength.”
