Government has unveiled plans to convert the Agbogbloshie dumpsite into an industrial hub aimed at driving urban renewal and youth employment.
President John Dramani Mahama stated that clearing the site will pave the way for the proposed Agbogbloshie Urban Land Renewal Project.
Once the waste is cleared, the reclaimed land will host an Industrial Park, featuring a major textile factory to create jobs for young people.
The project is designed to address both environmental degradation and unemployment by converting the polluted area into a productive manufacturing centre.
Speaking on September 18, 2026, during the launch of the National Emergency Waste Evacuation Exercise, Mahama highlighted that this initiative aligns with a broader national strategy to convert cleared landfill sites into productive economic spaces.
The redevelopment begins with a 90-day exercise to evacuate approximately one million tonnes of waste from Agbogbloshie to the Adepa Waste Centre in Nsawam.
