President John Dramani Mahama has left Accra for New York to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
This year’s assembly is themed “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.”
During the summit, President Mahama is expected to host two high-level side events aimed at supporting Africa’s renewal and driving global momentum on historical justice.
The first event, scheduled for Monday, 21 September 2026, focuses on the Accra Reset. It will convene global leaders to deliberate on the topic “Full Circle: Making Global Development Work Again.”
On Wednesday, 23 September 2026, the President will convene a second side event addressing reparatory justice titled “From Commitments to Action on Reparatory Justice: Advancing International Cooperation for the Return and Restitution of Cultural Properties and Heritage.”
President Mahama will deliver Ghana’s official statement during the main UN General Assembly Debate on Thursday, 24 September 2026.
Alongside his main address, the Ghanaian leader will hold bilateral meetings with world leaders, the UN Secretary-General, and top executives of multinational corporations to strengthen strategic partnerships, boost investment, and deepen engagement with the African diaspora.
In a bid to market Ghana as a prime investment destination, President Mahama will ring the NASDAQ Closing Bell and engage business executives at a US–Ghana Presidential Roundtable organised by the US–Africa Chamber of Commerce. He is also scheduled to address the Council on Foreign Relations and participate in the Ocean Panel Leaders’ Meeting.
Before wrapping up his itinerary, President Mahama will hold a Town Hall meeting with the Ghanaian diaspora in New York on Friday, 25 September, to share key updates on his national development roadmap.
The President is accompanied by First Lady Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, senior cabinet ministers, and senior officials from the Presidency.
A statement issued by the Minister for Government Communications and Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu (MP), confirmed the delegation’s departure.
