Three suspected armed robbers have been shot dead by the Upper East Regional Police Command during a follow-up operation at the Tilly Forest.

The deceased—Amadu Apiiga, 33, Philip Vokbilla, 23, and Bilal Adabode, alias Sulley—were part of a notorious gang linked to multiple armed robberies targeting mobile money vendors and motorbike riders across Benaba, Binduri, Pusiga, Garu, Zebilla, and nearby communities.

They have also been implicated in the murder of a police officer during a robbery at Zebilla on February 8, 2026.

According to police reports, the operation was initiated after the suspects led officers to a hidden location in the Tilly Forest to retrieve concealed rifles. However, the team came under fire from hidden accomplices upon arrival.

During the exchange of gunfire, Apiiga, Vokbilla, and Adabode sustained serious gunshot injuries. They were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.

Two police officers were also injured in the shootout and are currently receiving medical treatment. Other armed gang members believed to have suffered gunshot wounds escaped from the scene.

Items retrieved during the operation include two locally manufactured single-barrel guns, two pistols—including a BRUNI 92 pistol loaded with eleven 9mm live rounds—eighteen BB cartridges, three cutlasses, four unregistered Yamaha Aerox scooters, a pair of black boots, a motorbike registration plate, and two mobile phones.

Six other members of the syndicate previously arrested remain in custody assisting with investigations, while police intensify efforts to track down the fleeing suspects and uncover the source of their weapons.

The police command has appealed to the public and healthcare facilities to report anyone seen seeking medical treatment for gunshot wounds to the nearest police station.
