Executive Director of the Justice and Accountability Forum, Nana Bonsu, has stated that the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Anthony Kwesi Sarpong, is doing everything possible to ensure target delivery.
According to him, the GRA chief is working collaboratively with the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, to maintain fiscal discipline, ensure stability, and rectify the economic missteps of the previous administration.
He cited the government’s decision to finance the Accra-Kumasi Expressway project through internally generated funds (IGF) as a clear testament to the dedication of the GRA boss and the support of the sector Minister.
Mr Bonsu argued that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta left behind significant economic challenges, which Mr Sarpong is now actively helping the Finance Ministry to address.
“The Forum would like to commend the GRA boss for his hard work. He is working closely with the Finance Minister in servicing all the debts Ken Ofori-Atta left behind,” he stated.
“The decision by the government to use internally generated funds for the Accra-Kumasi Expressway project is a perfect example of how prudent the government has been. The GRA boss and his team have demonstrated competence. They have raised enough revenue for the country to the point that we have to use our own resources for such a monumental project,” he added.
He further noted that several other ongoing government projects no longer rely on external loans, stressing that such strides in revenue mobilisation deserve national commendation.
