Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo has pulled out of the Ghana national squad for their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations double-header against Côte d’Ivoire and Gambia.
The 26-year-old requested exclusion from the September–October international fixtures to rehabilitate a persistent ankle issue. He offered to undergo an independent medical assessment by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to confirm the injury’s extent.
Semenyo’s withdrawal delivers a significant blow to the Black Stars’ attack, which is already depleted by the absence of key figures Mohammed Kudus and Thomas Partey. The forward has enjoyed a prolific opening to the Premier League campaign, recording two goals and three assists in five matches.
Ghana start their qualifying journey away to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on 24 September, before returning home to face Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on 29 September.
In response to the mounting injury list, the GFA has made several late additions to the group. Brandon Thomas-Asante, Felix Afena-Gyan, and Jonas Adjetey have been drafted in, whilst Rockson Yeboah and Rahim Ibrahim have earned their debut senior call-ups.
