The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, has expressed strong optimism that the Volta Region possesses substantial natural resource deposits capable of being tapped on a commercial scale.
Addressing attendees at the official opening of the Asogli Teza edition of the Volta Economic Forum in Ho, the traditional leader highlighted ongoing drives to draw capital to the territory, while taking a firm stance against illegal mining operations and advocating for strict adherence to sustainable practices.
He noted that although the area currently trails other parts of the country regarding fully exploited natural wealth, the landscape is poised for a major shift.
“But let me add that bringing development to our region is not necessarily very easy. Why? Relating to other regions, we have not discovered enough of our mineral resources yet.”
“We are sure they are there, we are sure we will discover them, and we are sure we will also become a mining region very soon. But we shall mine responsibly; we will not allow galamaey in our region.”, he stressed.
Togbe Afede XIV went on to praise local administrators and key organizations—including the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, as well as the Volta Economic Forum and the Volta Development Forum—for their dedicated work in orchestrating growth strategies tailored for the locality.
“It is important to note that there are a lot of joint efforts by individuals like Mr Azorli, Hon Ahiafor, and Dr Afetorgbor to mobilise for the development of our region”, he said.
Detailing his personal involvement in regional development, Togbe Afede XIV pointed to ongoing infrastructural projects, such as the blueprint for a Green City and the construction of high-calibre residential properties near Ho Airport, as crucial steps toward modernising the local economy.
He further underscored that multi-sector collaboration remains essential for pooling the necessary assets to uplift living standards across the region.
Backing this outlook, Dr Elikplim Afetorgbor, a lead convener for the Volta Economic Forum, explained that previous editions of the gathering have already laid the groundwork for valuable commercial alliances across the area. He emphasised that raw potential must be backed by structure and capital to achieve meaningful transformation.
“Resources and opportunities do not transform economies by themselves. They require capital, credible projects, enabling institutions, strategic partnerships, and disciplined execution. And that is the essence of this year’s forum. Volta Economic Forum 2026”, he said.
Adding to the call for investors, Volta Regional Minister James Gunu assured prospective stakeholders that the region stands prepared to host and support enterprise across diverse industries.
“Volta is ready; we have the land, people, resources, and opportunities. We are ready to work with you to unlock their values. Let us move from opportunities to investments, from investments to enterprise and from enterprise to jobs, and improved livelihoods. Together, let us build a region that is competitive, innovative, resilient, and open to business”, he said.
