Ghana and the Philippines have agreed to significantly expand bilateral trade and investment, line up joint business fora, and set up a dual chamber of commerce to drive commercial exchanges between both nations.
The consensus was reached during a high-level bilateral meeting between Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the Philippines’ Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr Ablakwa commended the Philippine government for its milestone decision to establish an embassy in Ghana later this year—a landmark move marking the first physical diplomatic mission of the Southeast Asian nation in Accra since the commencement of bilateral relations between the two countries.
In addition to trade and diplomatic expansion, the foreign ministers further agreed to establish frameworks for exchanging expertise and policy ideas regarding labour mobility agreements.
The upcoming embassy opening and economic partnerships signal a fresh chapter in strengthening historical ties and promoting reciprocal business growth between Ghana and the Philippines.
