Ghana and Luxembourg have held high-level discussions aimed at boosting bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across key sectors of their economies.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel.
Discussions between the two envoys focused on practical economic cooperation, particularly in value addition, digital technologies, agro-processing, and industrial transformation.
Both leaders emphasized the need for strategic partnerships that create jobs, support local industries, and drive sustainable economic development.
In addition to economic development, Mr. Ablakwa and Mr. Bettel exchanged views on regional and international developments, security, democratic values, human rights, and constructive dialogue among partners.
They reaffirmed the importance of collaborating within multilateral frameworks and maintaining open communication channels.
A key highlight of the engagement was an agreement to open discussions on a potential visa waiver agreement between Ghana and Luxembourg, as well as the broader Benelux union.
The two ministers further explored ways to deepen Ghana’s cooperation with European partners, while strengthening ties with Luxembourg in development cooperation, investment, and people-to-people relations.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing dialogue and closer bilateral relations moving forward.
