Police in the Northern Region have taken three suspected kidnappers into custody in connection with the abduction of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, also known as Haruna, at Dobini Bunban near Yendi.
The suspects—Mahumudu Abdulai, 32, Ganiu Sumaila, 32, and Abdulai Salam, 28—were apprehended on Tuesday, 29th September 2026, during targeted operations across various locations in Sang, within the Mion District.
According to a police statement, preliminary investigations revealed that four armed men stormed the victim’s residence on Friday, 25th September 2026, attacking him and his brother before making off with the victim.
The gang subsequently reached out to the victim’s family, demanding a ransom of GH¢100,000 for his release.
However, the victim managed to slip away from his captors at an undisclosed location where he was being held under armed guard. Farmers in Sambu came to his aid and assisted him to safety before he was taken to a local clinic for medical treatment.
Police officers visited the medical facility to interview the victim, who later identified the three arrested men from photograph lineups.
Investigators further disclosed that the suspects have been linked to a string of other armed robbery incidents across the area.
All three suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. Security forces are currently pursuing the remaining accomplices to bring them to book and uncover the full details surrounding the crime.
