The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has held high-level discussions with a government delegation from the Kyrgyz Republic to explore bilateral cooperation in gold mining, trading, and investment.
The delegation from the Central Asian nation, led by its Foreign Affairs Minister Jeenbek Kulubayev, was accompanied to the meeting by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Receiving the Kyrgyz delegation, Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, Esq., outlined the Board’s ongoing mandate to reform and formalise Ghana’s gold sector.
Key priorities discussed included measures to curb gold smuggling and revenue leakages, boost direct purchases from artisanal and small-scale miners, and expand local refining capacity to drive value addition within the country.
The Kyrgyz delegation commended Ghana’s structured approach to small-scale gold governance and expressed strong interest in adapting lessons from the Ghanaian model to develop its own mineral sector.
Speaking during the visit, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa called for the establishment of a formal bilateral framework agreement.
He noted that such a framework would lay the foundation for sustained technical exchanges, joint ventures, and direct trade between both nations.
