Bawumia’s empathy over Labadi Beach demolition is selective hypocrisy — Divine Nkrumah

Divine Nkrumah, a leading member of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), has launched a fiery attack on Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, describing his recent reaction to the Labadi Beach demolition as pure hypocrisy.

According to Mr Nkrumah, Dr Bawumia’s public show of concern for the affected vendors and businesses at the beachfront is completely fake and detached from his track record in governance.

In a strongly worded statement, the PPP stalward questioned when the Vice President suddenly developed a soft spot for collapsed businesses, pointing directly to his silence during the government’s controversial financial sector clean-up.

“I just read Dr. Bawumia’s response to the Labadi Beach demolition, and honestly, it’s dripping with hypocrisy like a leaking sachet water,” Nkrumah stated. “When exactly did he discover that demolitions destroy businesses and livelihoods? Was it during his PhD in selective empathy?”

Nkrumah recalled how the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration spent over GH¢27 billion on the banking sector exercise, arguing that the crisis could have been resolved with a far smaller amount to protect local financial institutions and safeguard livelihoods.

“Back in the Banking Sector Cleanup, the NPP blew more than 27 billion cedis, pretending to solve a problem that could have been fixed with 9 billion to save the sector,” he pointed out. “Banks were wickedly collapsed under his watch, and instead of empathy, he served us with cold flimsy excuses like reheated waakye without shito.”

He added that thousands of ordinary Ghanaians lost their livelihoods, hard-earned investments, and commercial ventures during the banking clean-up, yet the Vice President showed no remorse or concern at the time.

“Ghanaians lost jobs, investments, and businesses, but did we hear this sudden Shakespearean passion for the ordinary man? Nope. Now, suddenly, he’s auditioning for the role of ‘Defender of the Dispossessed,’ as if Kumawood is casting,” Nkrumah added.

The PPP chief argued that if Dr Bawumia now wants to position himself as a champion for affected business owners, he must first account for the widespread devastation caused by the financial sector downfall.

“If concern for displaced businesses is now the standard, then Bawumia owes us a TED Talk explaining why that concern was missing when thousands were crushed by the banking cleanup. You can’t just wake up one morning, wear empathy like borrowed batakari, and expect applause.”

Concluding his critique, Nkrumah asked the Vice President to step aside and stop playing to the gallery with public sympathy over the Labadi Beach incident.

“Bawumia should kindly take several seats at the back, preferably the plastic ones that wobble, and spare us the selective outrage. Ghanaians need a break, not a comedy skit of crocodile tears!” he concluded.
