Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will not examine two high-profile special audit reports during its ongoing sittings following their withdrawal by the Auditor-General, Chairperson of the Committee, Hon. Abena Osei-Asare, has announced.
The reports in question are the Special Audit Report on the Embassy of Ghana in Washington DC (2017–2025)—which centres on allegations of visa and passport applicant extortion—and the Special Audit Report on the 13th All African Games, which addresses suspected financial irregularities.
Speaking at the commencement of PAC’s probe into the 2025 Audit Reports for the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Hon. Osei-Asare noted the importance of keeping the public updated on the procedural shift.
“Before we proceed, I wish to address one matter of considerable interest. The special audit report on the Embassy of Ghana in Washington DC covering 2017 to 2025 will not be considered in these sittings. This is because the Committee, through a letter by the Auditor-General to Parliament, has written to withdraw this particular report,” she stated.
Elaborating on the status of the African Games report, the PAC Chairperson explained that the decision was finalized during discussions with the audit agency.
“Again, the report on the 13th All African Games was also stepped down during our debriefing with the Auditor-General and so we will not be looking at these two reports until they are brought back to us again and this is something I believe the public should know.”
Hon. Osei-Asare reassured the public that the Committee remains committed to examining only fully authorized and accurate documentations once re-submitted.
“So we must note that when a corrected and duly authorized report is placed before Parliament and referred to the Committee we’ll always consider it on its merit without fear or favor. Our position is that accountability requires urgency but credibility requires accuracy and we will insist on both,” Hon. Osei-Asare added.
