The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Johnson Pandit Asiama, has called on commercial banks operating in the country to strengthen their risk management frameworks, adopt sustainable business models, and enhance institutional resilience to safeguard the gains achieved in the banking sector.
Speaking at the 43rd Annual General Meeting of the Ghana Association of Banks (GAB) and the launch of the 6th edition of the Ghana Bankers’ Voice Magazine in Accra on 8 October 2026, Dr Asiama noted that the sector has made significant progress in recent years, citing stronger capital positions, improved financial stability, and a decline in non-performing loans.
He urged financial institutions to build on these achievements by prioritizing sound governance practices, prudent risk management, and technological innovation.
“Our ambition should be to build a banking sector that is strong enough to absorb shocks, innovative enough to adapt to change, and capable of financing Ghana’s long-term economic transformation,” he said.
The Governor reaffirmed the central bank’s commitment to working closely with the banking industry and key stakeholders to foster a sound, resilient, innovative, and sustainable financial sector that supports national economic growth and development.
