The Minister of Education has ordered the immediate suspension and investigation of the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Mr Zakaria Abdulai, following allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female student at the institution in the Ashanti Region.
The directive, issued through the Ministry of Education, comes on the back of investigative reports produced by journalists Joynews and Manasseh Azure Awuni detailing the alleged incident.
In a official press statement signed by Press Secretary Hashmin Mohammed, the Ministry stressed that the Minister considers the issue gravely serious and has instructed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take swift steps regarding the administrator.
“The Honourable Minister considers the issue serious and has directed the Director General of the Ghana Education Service to take effective immediate steps to suspend the Headmaster, Mr. Zakaria Abdulai, pending full investigations into the matter,” the statement noted.
To ensure a comprehensive legal process, the Ministry has formally engaged law enforcement authorities to step in.
“The Minister has also requested the Police Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters to commence investigations into the matter,” Mr Mohammed stated.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance position on unprofessional conduct, the Ministry stressed that misconduct within learning environments will not be countenanced under any circumstances.
“The Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service reiterate that we would not tolerate or countenance such alleged despicable misconduct in any educational institution across the country,” the release declared.
The Ministry reminded educators across the nation of their fundamental obligation to protect students entrusted to their care.
“Parents and Guardians have entrusted their wards in the care of teachers whose responsibilities are to protect and safeguard the children and not abuse them,” the statement concluded.
