The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has taken over the investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School involving female students.
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu announced the development on Monday, October 19, 2026, clarifying that law enforcement will handle the criminal elements of the case while education authorities proceed with parallel administrative proceedings.
The school administrator, Zakaria Abdulai, has been interdicted pending the conclusion of the inquiries.
Reaffirming the government’s stance, the Minister stressed that state authorities will maintain zero tolerance for sexual harassment and misconduct in secondary institutions.
Addressing reporters, Mr Iddrisu indicated that the Ministry is preparing broader policy interventions to curb indiscipline, which includes drafting stringent regulations to govern teacher and student conduct across the country.
“Any act of sexual misconduct involving a teacher and a student amounts to abuse of office, and government takes strong exception to it. We have forwarded it to the criminal investigation department to deal with the criminal aspects of it whilst I’ve asked for the suspension of the headmaster without prejudice whilst we look into the merits of the case,” he said.
He noted that an advisory committee will soon be formed to guide the government on the matter.
Furthermore, the Minister endorsed proposals to give the Ghana Education Service (GES) code of conduct and professional standards full legal force under Article 11 of the 1992 Constitution.
