The Ghana Health Service (GHS), in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) through the School Health Education Programme (SHEP), has announced plans to conduct an intensive nationwide Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign in schools.
The initiative, supported by key healthcare partners, forms part of two planned rounds under the Periodic Intensification of Routine Immunisation (PIRI) framework. The effort aims to strengthen public health awareness around routine HPV immunization, improve overall vaccine uptake, and ensure that eligible young girls aged 9 to 14 years are protected against cervical cancer alongside other HPV-related medical conditions.
According to an official statement issued by the health authority, the first round of the exercise will run from Monday, 19th October to Friday, 23rd October 2026, while the second phase is set for Monday, 30th November to Friday, 4th December 2026.
During the campaign, designated health teams will visit schools across the country to administer doses to eligible girls who have yet to receive the vaccine.
Calling for cross-sector support, the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, urged all community leaders, school officials, teachers, parents, and guardians to assist the visiting medical personnel.
“The Ghana Health Service respectfully calls on all stakeholders, including school authorities, parents, guardians, teachers, and community leaders, to support and cooperate with health teams to ensure the successful implementation of the exercise,” Dr. Akoriyea stated.
He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to safeguarding public health, expressing appreciation to partners and community stakeholders for their continuous efforts in protecting children and advancing national healthcare outcomes.
