The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has raised an alarm over the activities of fraudsters sending fake SMS messages to unsuspecting members of the public under the pretext of collecting traffic fines.
According to the Authority, the scammers send text messages containing fraudulent links that redirect recipients to fake platforms designed to extort money. Victims are often prompted to pay supposed DVLA fines, with fraudsters enticing them using claims of discounts or creating panic through urgent payment deadlines.
Strongly condemning the trend, the management of the DVLA issued a stern warning to the public to disregard such messages.
“DVLA wishes to categorically inform the general public that these messages are fraudulent and must be disregarded,” the Authority stated.
To prevent motorists and vehicle owners from falling victim to these scams, the DVLA clarified that it does not offer discounts on fines under any circumstances.
It noted that any SMS, website, or individual claiming to provide discounted fines is entirely fraudulent.
The Authority further emphasized that the only acceptable online payment gateway for its official transactions is the Government of Ghana’s central payment platform, www.ghana.gov.gh. It advised the public to remain vigilant and ensure all online interactions are conducted solely through its official portal, www.dvla.gov.gh.
Members of the public are cautioned against clicking on suspicious links, inputting personal information, or making payments on unverified platforms. Anyone who receives such suspicious text messages is encouraged to report the matter to the nearest DVLA office or law enforcement agency for prompt action.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the public, the DVLA assured citizens that it will continue working to protect them from fraudulent schemes while ensuring all official dealings remain secure and transparent.
