The National Labour Commission (NLC) has intervened in the impending strike by the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG), directing the Minister of Jobs, Labour and Employment Relations to immediately lead discussions with the aggrieved workers.
JUSAG had earlier served notice of an industrial action scheduled for 2nd November, 2026, citing the government’s failure to address longstanding concerns regarding the review of salaries and related allowances.
In a letter dated 26th October, 2026, and signed by its Executive Secretary, Dr Bernice A. Welbeck, the Commission urged the sector minister to engage leadership and relevant stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the impasse.
The NLC has instructed that a comprehensive report on the engagement be submitted to the Commission by Friday, 6th November, 2026.
Meanwhile, pursuant to Section 161 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), the Commission has advised the Association to stay its intended industrial action while discussions are underway.
Copies of the directive have been forwarded to the Office of the President, the Judicial Secretary, the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, the Minister of Finance, and the General Secretary of JUSAG.
