The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 52-year-old man, Ibrahim Saani, for allegedly possessing 37 parcels of compressed substances suspected to be Indian hemp at New York, near Airport Junction.
Acting on intelligence, a police team swooped on the area at about 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, 25 October 2026, successfully apprehending the suspect. Authorities retrieved a bag containing the suspected narcotics alongside a crusher, subsequently escorting the suspect and exhibits to the police station for further investigation.
Preliminary investigations suggest Saani operated as a distributor of illicit substances within New York and surrounding communities. Police intelligence further revealed that the suspect allegedly feigned madness to mask his criminal enterprises.

Head of Public Affairs at the Tema Regional Police Headquarters, ASP Dede Dzakpasu, confirmed that the seized substances will undergo forensic examination to verify their composition and aid ongoing probes into potential accomplices.
“The suspect and his accomplices, if any, will be arraigned before the court as soon as investigations are completed,” ASP Dzakpasu stated.

The Command strongly cautioned citizens against participating in narcotics-related operations, urging anyone possessing credible intelligence regarding drug trafficking or possession to report immediately to the nearest police station. Emphasising community partnership, the police appealed for public cooperation to combat drug offences and safeguard local youth.
