The former Member of Parliament for Upper West Akim in the Eastern Region, Frederick Obeng Adom, has strongly refuted allegations by the incumbent lawmaker, Emmanuel Drah, that he achieved nothing during his tenure from 2020 to 2024.
Addressing the claims, Mr Adom outlined a range of development projects executed under his watch, particularly within the education sector. He highlighted the construction of a GETFund storey classroom block and a dedicated water project at Adeiso Senior High School (ADESEC), an annual awards scheme for teachers and pupils to enhance teaching and learning, the construction of a 100-metre footpath bridge connecting Adesio and Asuogya, as well as several road infrastructure and youth empowerment initiatives.
The former parliamentarian noted that even previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs, including Derek Ohene Assifu Bekoi, Joseph Sam Amankwanor, and Samuel Salifu Mensah, who served various terms spanning 4 to 16 years, have recognised his tangible track record in the constituency.
“It is utterly disingenuous for Emmanuel Drah to claim I did nothing during my four years in office when the evidence of my developmental footprint across Upper West Akim is clear for all to see. Despite receiving substantial allocations from the Common Fund, the current MP has failed to deliver any meaningful development for our people, choosing instead to focus on personal projects and selective distributions,” Mr Adom said.
He further attributed his defeat in the 2024 parliamentary elections to what he described as deceptive promises made by the NDC leadership, including President John Dramani Mahama and Mr Drah, regarding the revival of the abandoned Adeiso Juice Factory under a three-shift employment model.
Mr Adom accused the current administration of falsely taking credit for the arrival of Kasapreko Company Limited in the constituency. He explained that he and former District Chief Executive Eugene Sackey personally secured the land at Yaw Kwasi Junction between 2023 and 2024 to facilitate Kasapreko’s investment, alongside bringing in two foreign manufacturing firms in Okurase.
“The NDC is now attempting to claim credit for major industrial investments like Kasapreko, when it was my administration and former DCE Eugene Sackey who laid the groundwork and secured the land for their operations. The constituents have realised the deception, and in response to their persistent calls, I am fully prepared to return and reclaim the seat in 2028 to restore genuine progress to Upper West Akim,” he stated.
