Economist Mr. Emmanuel Amoah-Darkwah has opined that President Nana Akufo-Addo should have told Ghanaians the risks the country was currently facing economically.
He said he was expecting the President to have highlighted the risks the economy was facing especially in the covid-19 era.
President Nana Akufo-Addo on Tuesday touted the ability of his government to better manage the economy of Ghana.
Delivering the first State of the Nation Address for his second term of office, he said: “we (NPP Government) are good managers of the economy.”
He stated that the NPP are the good protectors of the public purse.
The President outlined several measures his government has taken to protect the economy in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.
But commenting, the economist said the President should have given us an update on how we have not raised enough revenue as a country.
He said this was important because we are exceeding our expenditure which has generated a problem of a large budget deficit.
He said we also finance our budget deficit through domestic and external sources.
Mr. Amoah-Darkwah maintained it was good to paint a picture of your record but ignoring the risk facing the economy was unfortunate.
He added our public debt is ballooning because of our large budget deficit.
