BAWKU YOUTH FOR PEACE (BYP) CALLS FOR PEACE IN BAWKU, AND OUTLINES SOME MEASURES THAT CAN AID THE PEACE PROCESS
We have observed with keen interest the recent unforntate happenings within the Bawku area. It is sad that with deep knowledge about it you would place blame on the elites instead of illiterates.
Briefly, the recent happenings has been able to take away about 16 lives, many properties destroyed, investors driven away as well as numerous other unfortunate incidence.
Futhermore, we are disappointed in our people, the stakeholders and our generation as the youth of today that these ugly events should not have been observed in this particular century or years. This not the century for wars, this is not the century for battles over supremacy, but a century where we as the youth should have come together to fight for a common goal, which is poverty, good health system, good educational system, unemployment, development and many other relevant issues. Sadly, it is the young ones who the front liners of these sad events.
However, we cannot fold our arms and look at things to fall apart, we have to add our voice and energy, time and resources towards attaining peace in the area We wish the general public and stakeholdets to take these few measures below that we think can help regain peace for the area.
(1) The media should be circumspect in their reportage in matters relating to the area. They should do away with interviewing people or giving airtime to people who inflame passion or people who make provoking comments against one side or the other.
(2) The government should immediately call both leaders together, deliberate on the fact of the matter, and openly declare where the truth belong to them without fear or favor.
(3) The national peace council should do their best to infuse peace within this area
(4) The National house of chiefs should not fold their arms as if the matter is about trade and industry, this issue is clearly about Chieftaincy and if they want people to really appreciate their relevance, then they should be out to tell people who owns the Bawku skin as far as their outfit is concern.
(5) After all the above mentioned measures, anyone who goes contrary or is found to have gone contrary to the rules of the state should be made to face the laws of the state.
(6) Politicians should not use this unfortunate event as a turning point to gain grounds from one side or the other. It is the lives of the people that matter.
We think when some of these factors are adhered to, we can have a permanent solution to this endemic. We have been with this for far too long , this should be end. Our next generation should not see this barbarism anymore.
