An Emergency Specialist with the Accident and Emergency College in Korle Bu and who also doubles as the Deputy Regional Coordinator National Ambulance Service Greater Accra, Dr. Felicia Burd Freeman, has underscored the need for paramedics to routinely undergo some form of medical screening to help live fit and stable to undertake their duties.
According to her, though these paramedics give care to patients on board, they do not have anyone to care for them hence the need to assemble them and have them screened.
She made this known over the weekend at the St. John’s Ambulance Service yard in Accra when the National Ambulance Service assembled most of its workers to screen them.
The medical doctor revealed that the service has lost some of their workers through all manner of diseases.
She said the screening was the first of its kind and would be replicated across other regions of the country to help preserve life.
She further called on Ghanaian workers in general in the country to find time out of their busy schedules to go for screening so they would know their health status and take the needed action when the need be.
