Institute for TransGenerational Leaders to hold a public lecture in honour of Prez for implementing free SHS

March 22, 2022

The Institute for TransGenerational Leaders will on March 29, 2022, organize a public lecture aimed at consolidating the gains of the free Senior High School Policy introduced by President Akufo-Addo in his first term.

The Institute argues that what President Akufo -Addo has achieved through his accomplishments in education is exemplary.

It is their opinion that President Akufo-Addo is a true asset to the Republic of Ghana and his legacies in the education sector must be preserved.

‘His service and commitment towards expanding education is exceptional and deserves to be commended. The legacies of the President must be consolidated and protected.”

The introduction of the policy the Institute added provided an opportunity for deprived persons to have access to secondary education at no cost.

It said education was key in helping the development of the country and the free policy has managed in contributing towards that.

“Despite great progress in the past few years, children are denied education. We must understand that education, development, and nation-building go hand in hand. The Role of education in developing countries is integral in the realization of economic growth and development, as lack of education causes poverty and slow economic development of a country especially if the country is a developing country like Ghana.”

The Institute described the policy as one that was well thought through because the President “prior to the 2016 President Akufo-Addo understanding the need for quality and accessible secondary school education to all Ghanaians irrespective of religion, social status, race, ethnicity, and gender made it his priority and a promise to initiate a policy that will make room for free and accessible education.”

“Undoubtedly, the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) program is the biggest and most successful pro-poor policy ever implemented by any government in the educational sector of this country.

It remains by far the most effective and the most highly applauded policy intervention
of President Akufo-Addo’s administration. The promise itself came with lots of controversies during the heat of the electioneering campaign.”

It said the policy has chalked several successes and it was important for Ghana to consolidate our gains in the education sector and protect the Free SHS legacy.

“In view of the above, the objective of this public lecture is to highlight the and consolidate the gains of the Free Senior High School Education Policy and protect the legacy for future generations.”

The public will be held at the GIMPA Greenhall Campus, main auditorium at 1:30pm.

The keynote speakers are Prof. Samuel Kwaku Bonsu, Rector, GIMPA, and Rev. Ntim Fordjour, (MP), Deputy Minister of Education.
