It is silly for NPP to blame NDC & JM for the booing of an incompetent & corrupt Prez- NDC MP

September 26, 2022

The Member of Parliament for Builsa has called the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) claims that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was to blame for the president’s heckling at the Global Citizen Event over the weekend “silly.”

According to the lawmaker, the ruling NPP has no shame or remorse, and instead of admitting that they have messed up the economy, they want to blame the opposition NDC and insult Ghanaians’ intelligence.

His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana, was heckled at the 2022 Global Citizen Festival stage at Accra’s Black Star Square.

H.E. Nana Addo finished his keynote address to jeers from the audience. He spoke about the Ghanaian government’s efforts to eradicate poverty and maintain national unity.

In response to the incident, the NPP blamed the NDC for organizing the booing.

Portions of the statement issued by the NPP said “Quite frankly, in a normal sporting or entertainment events, fans boo. It might not be printed on the ticket, but fans believe the price of admission includes a right to express themselves about pretty much anything that goes on at the ballpark, stadium or arena. They whistle, jeer and taunt, and no one – players, coaches, other fans, even mascots is immune.

“To think President Akufo-Addo would be spared that kind of reception, or be outraged that he wasn’t, is either naïve or sanctimonious.

“Truly, politicians don’t expect to be popular all the time. Getting on with running the country is a job where you have to take difficult decisions a lot of the time. There’s nothing wrong if President Akufo-Addo goes to an event and receives cold reception. That’s a normal occurrence.

“But then, to allow politics to take centre stage at such an event and single out the President unfairly for political point scoring raises serious concerns. To put it more bluntly, it is pure evil and utter disgrace for the NDC to organize its supporters to go and shout down the President the manner it happened.

“As a matter of fact, the mean-spirited treatment of President Akufo-Addo, the fact that the president’s appearance prompted loud and sustained boos and jeers from partisan NDC crowd at the global citizen event crossed some bright line.”

But reacting to the statement from the NPP, Dr. Apaak stated that the Nana Addo administration had mismanaged the economy, led a corrupt administration, and appointed family, friends and relatives as appointees to amass wealth for themselves at the expense of the poor Ghanaians.

”Silly, so silly. Really, NADAA being booed was instigated by JM/NDC. NADAA/NPP should keep playing ostrich. They should keep belittling the reactions of masses in reaction to the debilitating hardship their corrupt, incompetent and family/friends government has subjected them to!”

Ghanaians, he claims, are feeling the pinch of hardship imposed by the Akufo-Addo-Bawmua government’s “incompetence.”

He said Ghanaians are facing extreme hardship, and it keeps increasing every day, but the president and his assigns are careless about it.

He said the booing should serve as an opportunity for the government to feel the pain and difficulties Ghanaians were going through.
